Naby Keita is being wrapped in cotton wool by Werder Bremen, with his move from Liverpool yet to work out.
That’s according to BILD, who say ‘the euphoria has faded’ after initial excitement regarding Keita’s arrival from Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
The newspaper explains that the 28-year-old’s move from Anfield was ‘a great source of hope’ for Werder and their fans but that didn’t last long.
Keita was injured while warming up before the first pre-season fixture against Oldenburg and was later diagnosed with a muscular injury in his adductor area.
That proved to be very bad news indeed and the midfielder is still waiting to make his first appearance for Werder as a result.
He’s now back in first team training but when the former Liverpool man will actually appear remains to be seen.
That’s because those in charge at the German club are ‘wrapping the new arrival in cotton wool’ and planning on gradually introducing him to the starting eleven rather than dropping him in at the deep end.
They don’t want to risk any more injuries and repeat what happened at Liverpool, where a series of injuries limited his playing time and eventually led to him leaving Anfield on a free transfer.
