Gaëtan Laborde’s performances for Montpellier last season drew attention from several sides, including Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The striker was included in the Premier League side’s target list in the winter 2020 market, but no Wolves approach was made in the end.

Laborde waited until the summer deadline day to seal a switch to Rennes, signing a contract with them until 2025.

According to Homme Du Match, the 27-year-old has been ‘breathtaking’ since joining Bruno Génésio’s side, scoring 11 goals and registering two assists in all competitions.

The Frenchman’s impressive performances and statistics have seen Bruno Lage and Wolves ‘take a close interest’ in him. It’s claimed that ‘especially Wolverhampton’ have placed Laborde’s name on top of their list for next summer.

Rennes allowed Édouard Mendy to join Chelsea in 2020, a year after signing the goalkeeper from Reims.

Homme Du Match use Mendy’s sale as an example to state the Ligue 1 side are willing to let Laborde leave, provided they receive a ‘non-refusable’ offer.

The report doesn’t specify a figure or a range, and if Wolves want to sign the frontman, it looks possible yet costly.
