As Portuguese newspaper Record today talks about the future of Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand, they point out the Lions are hopeful he will reject Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s said there’s a chance the Lions give the player a pay raise, as long as he accepts to stay at the club for another season.
For that to happen, the ‘entire structure of the club’ want him to reject Tottenham, who are one of the sides who have him in a ‘shortlist’.
Record had already reported that Spurs scouted Hjulmand in the Lisbon derby between Sporting and Benfica in February, when he was one of the best players in his team.
Now there’s this expectation that in case Tottenham do come for him, there’s a chance he could ignore the bid and continue playing for the Lions, despite how unlikely that sounds.
Something very important that is not mentioned in Record’s story is that Hjulmand isn’t only an Arsenal fan, but also has the Gunners’ crest tattooed on his arm.
Therefore, there’s a chance Tottenham will be the ones to snub him first, as that wouldn’t be the best PR move on their part.
