Álex Moreno is open to leaving Aston Villa for Real Betis in the summer window, according to Cope Sevilla, relayed by Estadio Deportivo.

The left-back spent more than three years at the La Liga side before joining the Villans in January 2023, which was Unai Emery’s first transfer window at Villa Park.

Moreno missed the start of the recently concluded season with an injury, and he finished the campaign with 29 appearances.

The 31-year-old’s deal at Aston Villa lasts until 2026, but he hasn’t hidden his desire to return to the Spanish club, and has publicly talked about it.

Cope Sevilla now state the player is ‘eager’ to join Real Betis ‘as soon as possible’. He’s willing to ‘make a considerable effort, by taking a pay cut to secure a move back to his old club.

Although Moreno could conceivably agree personal terms with Real Betis, they’d have to find an agreement with Aston Villa to conclude the operation. As of now, Manuel Pellegrini’s side won’t be able to afford him, unless the Premier League side offer a bargain.

This is difficult, but not impossible considering Aston Villa director Monchi is in the market for a new left-back. Real Betis, for their part, aren’t losing sight of Moreno, while they are also looking at other targets.
