Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is a big fan of Atlético de Madrid’s Joao Felix and believes he could be a ‘market opportunity’ for the club this summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Portuguese forward’s future at Barcelona is not clear and a move to Aston Villa is very much possible this summer.
The newspaper explains that Felix is well aware that Barcelona are strengthening their forward line in this window and the potential arrival of Nico Williams, which could push him further down in the pecking order, leaves his future there uncertain.
The Portugal forward is prioritising playing time and ‘feeling important again’, something that former club Benfica have promised him as they work on a potential reunion.
He knows he is facing an important decision over his career as Atlético de Madrid don’t want him and Barcelona are not showing any urgency to bring him back either. They’d only be interested in a loan deal.
He’s told his agent Jorge Mendes to resolve his future by the end of July so he can avoid pre-season with Atlético but neither Benfica nor Barcelona can push for him at this moment in time.
That’s where Aston Villa come into the mix, as Unai Emery considers the player as a high quality one and someone he’d love to have in his squad.
Likewise, he thinks he could be a ‘market opportunity’ for Aston Villa this summer and is seemingly urging the club to try and get him, albeit on a loan deal also.
Whether Felix would accept the offer is up for debate but with Atlético not interested, Barcelona potentially signing players that would stop his desire for playing time and Benfica needing time to work on the finances, perhaps they could prove to be tempting.
