It’s been quiet on Arsenal transfer news recently. The Jamie Vardy saga came and went, Henrikh Mkhitaryan rumours appeared to more social media based, and the alleged pursuit of Gabigol is the kind of story Arsenal fans hear every summer.
As well as being linked with surpremely talented South American youngsters, another Arsenal tradition is being linked with Karim Benzema, and Spain’s El Confidencial come up with the goods on Thursday.
In an article which mainly covers potential Real Madrid interest in Robert Lewandowski, El Confidencial point out that should the Polish international arrive it could lead to the departure of Karim Benzema.
Zinedine Zidane would like to keep his competriot, but it’s stated the club could be tempted by a large bid. And of course Arsenal are said to still be interested, the Premier League will wait and see what happens with Madrid’s recruitment.
Benzema hasn’t had the easiest of summers, being excluded from the France squad, and would probably look dimly on a move. However, if it were made clear to him he’d be playing second fiddle to Lewandowski then things could change.
There’s a lot of variables here, but at a time when the world is filled with uncertainty, at least we can all take comfort in the reliable arrival of Karim Benzema to Arsenal rumours. Always there when you expect.
