Luis Díaz being linked with Barcelona is absolutely nothing new.
In November of last year, the Liverpool player’s father told the Colombian media that his son would very much welcome a move to the Catalan side.
He was quoted as saying: “It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there. So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.”
The Barcelona rumours were given a nudge earlier this week when claims again came from the media close to the Blaugrana, talking up a potential move for the attacker.
Then there was even a claim Díaz had agreed a deal with Manchester City, and it was just a case of Pep Guardiola’s side coming to a financial agreement with the Reds.
Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra has now had his say.
Sierra reports Barcelona ‘reactivated their interest’ last week. It’s claimed they want to make an offer but need to use ‘financial engineering’ to make it happen. Presumably that means finding a new lever down the back of the sofa.
Perhaps getting to the crux of the issue, the journalist then states Liverpool and Díaz’s camp have already held talks on a contract renewal, although there’s nothing ‘concrete’ at this stage.
Reading between the lines, whilst a move to Barcelona wouldn’t be snubbed, there appears to be a push here for a new Liverpool deal and associated pay rise.
