Last week, Fabio Capello spoke to the Italian media and said he didn’t quite understand the level of hype around Roberto De Zerbi.
Capello, who won multiple Serie A and La Liga titles during a trophy-laden managerial career, explained the Brighton & Hove Albion manager hadn’t really won anything and that the hype was therefore undeserved.
He even suggested that much of the encouragement for people rating De Zerbi so highly came from Pep Guardiola praising him and everyone taking the Manchester City manager’s words as gospel.
Within days of all of that, Brighton announced that they’d be parting ways with De Zerbi at the end of the season. It was presented as a no-blame situation and just the right time for those involved to go their separate ways.
Monday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport takes a look at the situation, and explains that AC Milan may now return for the manager. They weren’t keen on paying his €15m release clause at Brighton, and without that he becomes much more attractive.
Paulo Fonseca had been favourite for the Rossoneri, but that was before De Zerbi became available as free agent opportunity.
