Edward Still could be set for an immediate return to action following his departure from Watford last week.

DH Net report that the former Watford manager is the ‘frontrunner’ to succeed Fred Taquin as manager of Belgian Pro League club RAAL La Louvière.

Still the clear frontrunner

According to their information, Edward Still is the clear frontrunner to become La Louvière’s new manager despite having ‘barely been dismissed’ by Watford.

The Belgian side are on the hunt for their next manager, with Taquin set to leave at the end of the season. They have already spoken to Guillaume Gillet. He is a consultant for the RTBF and assistant coach of the Belgian U17 national team.

But they are also interested in the former Watford boss. That’s despite his less than impressive record of eight losses in 15 games during his 83 day stay at Vicarage Road. He also lost both of his matches as interim head coach at Anderlecht.

Now he could be set to relaunch his career back in Belgium, where he has also worked as an assistant manager at Anderlecht, Royal Antwerp and Club Brugge. He was also managed at R Charleroi SC, KAS Eupen and KV Kortrijk.

Post Watford choice

It appears those various spells have left him with a positive reputation in the country. And now he’s at the front of the queue to replace Taquin at the end of the season.

The question is whether Edward Still wats the move. His time at Watford may have been a disaster but, there are not many managers who come out of Vicarage Road with a positive outcome.

The 35-year-old may fancy another crack at a Championship job, and repairing the damage done, before heading back to the sanctity of Belgium, which he obviously knows well at this stage. That’s, perhaps, the decision he’s now weighing up post Watford.
