Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is having a great start to the season under new manager Antonio Conte. Something went wrong for the Belgian in Jose Mourinho’s last season with the club, but that’s largely forgotten now as Hazard has been helping Chelsea turn themselves into serious title challengers.

Currently away with the Belgium national squad, Hazard has once again taken up the captain role in the absence of Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany. The defender had been scheduled to start Belgium’s friendly match against the Netherlands but had to pull out after feeling pain during the warm up.

Therefore, the armband was passed back over to Chelsea’s attacker, but, in quotes carried by Sporza, Hazard has made it very clear he still sees Kompany as the main man, even if he’s not around much.

“That band is not important to me. When I play without that tape, I will still do my best. I try to take my responsibilities on the pitch, even though I do not talk so much.”

“Everyone knows the role of Vincent in our squad. He talks a lot, everybody listens to him and he remains our captain.”

Still only 25 years of age, Hazard has plenty of time to build himself into a captain’s role, if that is of interest to the Chelsea player.
