Signed by Southampton from Manchester City, Roméo Lavia didn’t take long to make a real name for himself at St Mary’s.
In fact, he’s impressed so much that Domenico Tedesco, now the Belgium manager, called him up in his first squad this international break, meaning the 19-year-old could pick up his first cap in the next two weeks or so.
That’s a great honour, as the player himself told the press on Wednesday, relayed by DH, where the Southampton starlet also briefly talked about his past and future.
Leaving Belgium at an early age to go to the north of England, the player was criticised in his home country, but he made sure to put all that behind him.
He said: “I didn’t want to prove anything to anyone, I was just thinking on my trajectory.”
As for a return to Manchester City, who negotiated at buy-back clause in their deal to sell the player to Southampton, that’s not something the youngster has on his mind right now.
In fact, he said it’s “too early to think about it”, choosing his works ‘very carefully’, according to the Belgian outlet.
It’s been claimed that Manchester City would have to fork out around £40m if they wanted to bring back the midfielder, which, at this rate, might be a bit of a bargain if he continues to develop the way he has been since the start of the campaign.
