Since Victor Orta left Leeds United, multiple exits, whether by loan or permanent transfer, have been conditioned via clauses the Spaniard agreed when he was in power at Elland Road.

That’s been seen repeatedly this summer, and specifically this week with Georginio Rutter’s £40m release clause being activated by Brighton & Hove Albion.

On the face of it, financially that looks a good deal for the Whites, but Germany’s Kicker have received some information which will bring Leeds United’s profit down by quite a chunk.

Kicker go over the history and explain that when Rutter left TSG Hoffenheim he was in tears, not because he didn’t fancy Yorkshire but rather due to the speed of the deal.

He left the German club’s training camp in Portugal and went straight to Leeds United, initially bringing €28m to Hoffenheim.

There were multiple bonuses and clauses included in the deal, with some claims even saying an extra €150k was paid per appearance. The headline figure which had been banded about at the time, €40m, wasn’t hit, though.

Indeed it was far from it.

But, and this an almighty but, Kicker say they’ve been informed ‘this will change if the player is sold’, and ‘the remaining €5m will now be due in one go’.

For Hoffenheim it will be a welcome boost to their transfer budget for the final weeks of the window.
