Prior to his ban for breaching betting regulations, and then during and after it, Ivan Toney was not afraid to talk up a move to a much bigger club than Brentford.
He felt it was the natural next step, and multiple Premier League sides were mentioned. None appear to have strongly come forward for the striker, with even his inclusion in England’s Euro 2024 squad not managing to edge interest into action.
There’s obviously still time left in the summer window for one of the biggest Premier League clubs to make a move, but time is running out and the Brentford star may be encouraged to look for a more unusual route.
FootMercato report Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are ‘doing their best’ to recruit Toney. It’s explained they want to secure the 28-year-old’s services and are prepared to offer €18m per year on a three year contract to do the trick.
There’s no indication of what the Saudi club are willing to pay Brentford, and that of course could be key.
