Thomas Partey made 33 appearances in the league for Atletico Madrid last season, but has failed to have regular playing time this campaign as he is restricted to less than 300 minutes over seven appearances.
According to Marca, the 25-year-old is unhappy with the restricted time on the pitch with the Europa League winners and the situation has forced him to consider leaving the club, when the transfer window reopens in January.
Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the Ghana international, but he has the full backing of Diego Simeone as the La Liga side’s manager believes the midfielder is a player with ‘incredible’ potential.
Partey signed a contract extension in March 2018 and his current deal runs down in 2023.
It’s worth noting that when the player extended his contract in March it was reported by AS that his clause had increased to €80m.
If Partey has decided to leave Atletico, it will be difficult for them to retain him should potential suitors decide to trigger his buyout clause, whichever figure it is.
That said, triggering €50m sounds a much better deal than €80m, and there’s a reasonable chance clubs could think both levels are overpriced.
