On Boxing Day, A Bola reported Arsenal are best positioned to sign Sporting star Gonçalo Inácio.
The centre-back has been one of the key reasons the Lions currently sit top of the league. That has also seen him attract interest from other clubs and Arsenal are said to be in this list.
Today’s A Bola states Sporting are concerned about losing the 22-year-old this month and that feeling is also within the squad.
Sporting captain Sebastián Coates remains hopeful the defender stays until the end of the season, and said so this week. The club are thought to have covered themselves by completing the signing of Rafael Pontelo on Tuesday.
When discussing Inácio’s options, several clubs are named but the report claims Arsenal are ‘more incisive’.
The Portugal international has a €60m clause and an unnamed club from England is formulating an offer of €40m fixed fee plus €20m in bonuses to sign him.
On December 23rd, Jornal de Notícias reported Arsenal aim to get ahead of other clubs in the race to sign Gonçalo Inácio by offering €40m plus €20m bonuses for Inácio.
Given Arsenal are the only English club mentioned in A Bola’s article on the defender, they obviously look the likeliest suspects.
Sporting, for now, are only considering selling Inácio next summer and not this month.
