Pedro Porro’s time at Tottenham has been full of ups and downs. His obvious quality is now attracting attention from abroad.
This week, Sport Witness covered doubts surrounding the future of another Spurs defender in Djed Spence. Juventus are considering a possible deal for the Englishman, who might not be the only defender to depart in the summer.
Porro is also of interest in Italy, having played 36 times in all competitions this season. He’s racked up five assists, having been a regular under Ange Postecoglou too.
L’Interista take a closer look at his situation, especially with Tottenham hovering just above relegation.
Inter keen on Porro
The outlet believe the 26-year-old is considered ‘the best’ option for Inter, who want to sign a right wing-back in the summer.
There is interest in Marco Palestra but the Nerazzurri are seeking an established player in the position. Denzel Dumfries is expected to leave in the summer and has a release clause of €25m in his contract.
Once Inter earn that fee, they are likely to move for Porro, with Tottenham unlikely to demand a huge amount. Inter Milan have a €40m budget.
The right-back’s experience at the highest level appeals to the Serie A league leaders. He is also at the peak of his career and will not have problems in dealing with the pressure of playing at the San Siro.
Our take on Porro’s Tottenham exit
It has been clear that this season, Porro’s development has stagnated. While erratic at times, the defender is usually one of Tottenham’s most reliable players but it remains to be seen if he can take the next step in London.
Inter, who are a much more stable footballing institution right now – although that can change quickly in Italy, can help him do that. Dumfries himself has done that since joining from PSV Eindhoven.
Playing at wing-back in a 3-5-2 setup might also benefit Porro. He is currently playing at centre-back in a back three largely due to his long-passing ability. That takes away his strength of carrying the ball forward and Inter would want that.
So, a move to the Nerazzurri will make sense and it will come down to whether they can meet Tottenham’s asking price.
