Nottingham Forest tried to sign Davide Frattesi in the January transfer window and remain in the picture for the midfielder.
Sport Witness closely covered the Italian’s situation as he seemed very close to leaving Inter Milan. His move to the City Ground depended largely on Curtis Jones going to the Nerazzurri but it never materialised.
This led to Frattesi staying at Inter and that has proved frustrating for the midfielder in terms of prominence.
He’s started just two games in 2026, featuring for only nine minutes since the start of April. Things weren’t better in the first half of the campaign either.
This makes him a likely candidate to leave, with Nottingham Forest very much in the picture.
Discount on the way
Gazzetta dello Sport have a report on the Italy international, whose lack of game time has derailed the progress he made in the 2024/25 campaign. He scored vital goals against Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Champions League, becoming a key goalscorer for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
Despite that, Cristian Chivu has never shown an inclination towards using him this season.
The report states Nottingham Forest made a €35m offer for Frattesi in January. That might have seemed enough but things have now changed.
Inter are happy to grant a discount in the summer, with the 26-year-old also keen on finally leaving.
Nottingham Forest’s ‘antennas remain alert’ but there could be competition from AS Roma. The former Sassuolo player came through the Giallorossi youth academy and could be part of a possible swap involving Manu Kone.
That is only one of the options though, with the race very much open.
Our take: Frattesi might prefer Roma move
Frattesi was born in Rome and he played over 50 games for multiple youth teams of the Giallorossi. He has a special connection with the club and should be open to the move.
Kone has been pursued by Inter for around a year now too. Swap deals are usually complex but there are pieces of the puzzle that are in place in this case.
This should worry Nottingham Forest, who are out of the Europa League too now. They will not play in Europe next season, which make the club less attractive.
Roma remain in the mix for Champions League qualification and that will attract Frattesi even more.
