Burnley centre-back Maxime Estève has completed his move to RB Leipzig and signed for the German side on Thursday.
Le Parisien report that the 24-year-old Frenchman has sealed his departure from Turf Moor and will join Leipzig in a €32m deal.
Burnley exit sealed
According to the newspaper’s sources, Maxime Estève signed for RB Leipzig on Thursday. The 24-year-old is leaving the Championship side for a move to the Bundesliga.
Sport Witness have covered Leipzig’s developing interest in the defender for the last month. The first report explained that the Burnley defender was attracting serious interest from the German club this summer.
A second report on the 11th of July then explained that Leipzig were getting serious about the move, with a deal expected at some point this week. By Wednesday evening, reports in Germany were stating that Estève was due to undergo a medical in a deal worth more than €30m.
Now it appears that the deal is done. According to Le Parisien, the 24-year-old has sealed his exit in a €32m move.
Burnley stint
His departure will bring an end to a two year stay at Burnley, who he initially join on loan from Montpellier in February 2024. That deal was made permanent for €12m five months later and he’s been at Turf Moor ever since.
He went on to make 100 appearances in total for the Clarets, with 50 coming in the Premier League and 46 in the Championship. He featured consistently in the sides that were relegated, promoted and then relegated last season.
But that has not put off suitors. The defender has been regularly linked with a move inside of the Premier League over the last two years. Instead, he’s departing for Germany. He will hope to enjoy the kind of progression that several players have at Leipzig in recent years.
