Sporting are reportedly losing their hope of signing Lazar Markovic from Liverpool, according to claims from Portugal.
The club’s interest in the Serbian showed up last week, and after Markovic was reportedly considered transferable by Jurgen Klopp, it looked like an encouragement for The Lions.
However, the English press have recently claimed that the player is only leaving on a permanent deal, and that’s what Portuguese newspaper Record consider to be making things hard for Sporting. Liverpool would want a considerable amount to recover part of the €25m paid for him to Benfica in 2014.
But Record claims that Sporting can’t afford it, so they were hoping of getting a loan deal. Now, as the competition from Wolfsburg and Fenerbahce is strong, the Portuguese side is considered to be left behind in the race.
Despite the winger having a good start to pre-season, Jurgen Klopp said he doesn’t want to keep players who will have little chance to play. The Turkish press had reported a possibility of a bid from Fenerbahce, where the 22-year-old spent the last season on loan, but no updates have been claimed recently.
