Newcastle United are about to face some strong competition for Vasco starlet Andrey Santos.
This week, stories from the Catalan media reported Barcelona interest in the player. Now it’s time for Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola to bring more information on this chase.
On his YouTube channel, the reporter claims the Camp Nou side were the first club to make an offer for Andrey, putting €6m on the table in January, when the winger was still in Vasco’s youth ranks.
Even though Barça still haven’t made a second offer, Nicola claims they continue to watch the player and have a scout in South America following him. It’s therefore ‘likely’ a new bid will be made in the next transfer window.
The journalist then brings Newcastle into the story, saying the Magpies were the only club who ‘recently’ placed an offer for the player. The Magpies placed a bid worth €20m, but Vasco turned that down, demanding at least €35m.
In his video, Nicola even reads a message he got from one of Andrey’s representatives. That said: “Barcelona are closely following Andrey’s games in Serie B. His name is pretty strong there.”
So if Newcastle are thinking of a big attempt, they better be aware they need to beat the Camp Nou giants in that race. The Magpies’ interest continues to be reported by the Brazilian media, with another update being published this month.
