Newcastle United’s failure to sign Victor Osimhen in January has apparently not put them off making another attempt in the next window. For the past few weeks, reports from Italy have discussed the Magpies interest in the Napoli star for the summer.
On March 12th, Corriere dello Sport explained the Tyneside club have made an offer of just under €150m to sign both the striker and his club teammate, Fabián Ruiz.
Three days later, Sky Italia journalist Mario Giunta backed Eddie Howe’s side to return for the 23-year-old after this season.
“The Nigerian striker is a champion, a great footballer destined to become more and more important,” Sparnelli said, as relayed by Area Napoli.
“For him we are talking about a sensational offer between one hundred and eighty and two hundred thousand million euros. Osimhen would be interested in clubs belonging to the Premier League.
“We are talking about a very strong player with extraordinary courage. After the terrible injury suffered during the match against Inter after a clash with Skriniar he did not lose soul, he fought and fought like a lion despite having a mask.”
Sparnelli did not categorically mention Newcastle, but Area Napoli do state the Premier League side are in the picture to sign the Nigeria international.
They further add his comments ‘generated a certain disbelief and scepticism among the other guests of the show’.
