In the weeks leading up to the Christmas period, the media around Sevilla were repeatedly reporting Gonzalo Montiel was set to end his loan stint at Nottingham Forest.
For the Spanish club it represented a big disappointment, given they’d been keen for the loan to succeed and for the purchase clause to be triggered.
That clause is said to be worth €10m and if Nottingham Forest and Montiel hit a certain numbers of markers then it becomes an obligation.
Sevilla had given up and a move to South America, for a lower fee, was thought to be the solution.
Then over Christmas, Montiel spoke to the media, thanked god for his opportunity to play in the Premier League, and made it clear he’s very happy that he’s where he is now.
The difference? Well, AS put it all down to Nuno Espirito Santo, who they say has ‘changed everything’ since arriving at the club.
Sevilla now have optimism that Nuno will continue to give Montiel chances, and therefore the €10m permanent move to Nottingham Forest can happen.
