Southampton have reportedly joined the race for Bas Dost. The Wolfsburg striker, who was close to joining Betis, has been attracting the attention of many other European clubs lately.

According to El Desmarque, the 27-year-old has offers from Germany, Turkey, Spain and England. As Betis and Besiktas were already known to be in the battle for the Dutch player, Southampton are the latest team to show interest.

It’s not made clear what the nature of the offers is, whether it’s just an open offer to join, or an approach to the German club.

Although Wolfsburg want to start the negotiations at €10m, El Desmarque says the talk in Germany is that €7m should be enough to take the player from the club, since there’s only one year of contract left for him.

Bas Dost reportedly would like to play in La Liga, but his salary is a big issue for Betis: He wants to earn €2m net per year, which is considered to be too high for the Spanish club.

The striker didn’t have a particularly good or particularly bad season in 2015/16, scoring 10 goals in 31 appearances for Wolfsburg.
