“Koeman and Klaassen failure”.
That’s how De Telegraaf see Everton’s latest result in the Europa League, as the Toffees somehow managed to draw 2-2 against ten-men Apollon Limassol.
Following their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Atalanta, Thursday night’s result leaves Ronald Koeman’s men bottom of Group E, with a tough game against Lyon unlikely to turn things around anytime soon.
While the Dutch manager has encouraged the press to give summer signing Davy Klaassen some time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, European football should be his area of expertise, having played enough of it during his time at Ajax.
Having stocked up on attacking midfielders this summer, with the arrivals of Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson adding to that of the Dutchman’s, Ronald Koeman is going to need to work something out quickly, or he might find himself following in the footsteps of his compatriot Frank de Boer, whose time at Crystal Palace was cut short a few weeks ago.
He’s not quite at that stage yet, but if he ends up on the wrong end of a few more winnable results, things could turn sour very quickly.
