Dutch newspaper Metro Nieuws has been speaking to Eljero Elia ahead of Feyenoord’s match against Manchester United on Thursday evening. Elia signed for Feyenoord in 2015 from Werder Bremen, having previously been on loan with Southampton.
Therefore, Metro Nieuws wanted to get some insight from the Dutchman about what it’s like playing at Old Trafford. It’s fair to say Elia was impressed when he visited there with Southampton, probably even more so because Dusan Tadic scored the winner for the Saints at ‘creepy’ (in a good way) Old Trafford.
Elia sounds like he’s got a great deal of respect for Manchester United and , despite the team’s struggles so far this season, he explained that soon enough Old Trafford will be used to glory once again.
“The team is growing. There is a lot of tinkering in the team and eventually they will be there again and they’ve dominated for years in the Premier League. I just hope that they are not at their peak, haha. We’re going there to win, but they are obviously the favourite.”
Manchester United have been playing a little better recently, but still got getting the consistent results to match. Jose Mourinho has a team which should be beating Feyenoord easily, and he’ll want to avenge September’s 1-0 loss.
