Nottingham Forest showed keen interest in signing Lazio goalkeeper Luís Maximiano and Sampdoria’s Emil Audero in the winter market. The failure to take either of them saw the Premier League side bring in Keylor Navas on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Navas has now returned to PSG and the Tricky Trees will have to bring in a replacement for him in the summer.
According to La Repubblica, relayed by La Lazio Siamo Noi, Nottingham Forest could return for their two old targets, who are expected to leave their clubs in the next window.
Steve Cooper’s side ‘tried in every way’ to convince 24-year-old Portuguese and Audero to join them in January. They had even made ‘important offers’, but weren’t able to sign either of them.
There’s been talk of an unnamed goalkeeper being blocked by Maurizio Sarri’s side but Maximiano must first leave for him to arrive at Lazio.
This is where Nottingham Forest could come into the picture and take him away from the Rome club, but the Premier League side shouldn’t underestimate the approaches from Spain and Portugal for the Biancocelesti stopper.
On the other hand, Audero could receive requests from some English clubs, including one from Cooper’s side.
However, it’s too soon to discuss the 23-year-old Italian’s situation considering Sampdoria, who were relegated from the Serie A, are in the process of changing owners.
For now, the report only talks about the duo being back on Nottingham Forest’s radar and it remains to be seen if they’ll take further steps in the summer.
