Newcastle United fans may have some sympathy with Anderlecht. The Belgium club are struggling this transfer window but their budget is pretty much non existent.
With a takeover going through, Anderlecht are in a position which means they need to sell before they can buy, and even loans could be dismissed if wages or loan fees are too expensive.
The club’s general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck has been speaking to DH and was asked about rumoured interest in Newcastle’s Chancel Mbemba. Moving to make sure fans know the realities, the Anderlecht boss said: “He has a contract in Newcastle where he earns a lot of money, I know that we name a lot of names but we are in a situation of due diligence, this is the first time in my life that this has happened to me. I will try to manage it as best as possible.”
That sounds like a move is ruled out, at least unless Anderlecht sell some players, which is entirely possible before the end of the month.
With a takeover situation also going on at Newcastle United, Rafael Benitez’s lot isn’t completely different. There’s a confusion over what the future will bring, and that impacts upon spending.
Newcastle fans may have some sympathy with their Anderlecht counterparts, but probably not enough to want to see Mbemba sent there on a cheap deal.
