Chelsea forward Timo Werner has insisted he will not be driving himself crazy about his struggles at the club.

The German forward arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £47.7m deal from RB Leipzig last summer as the Blues looked to add firepower to their forward line.

He came to the club with a big reputation, having been the star of the show for Leipzig in the Bundesliga with a tally of 95 goals and 40 assists in 159 games.

He’s struggled to find that form for Chelsea so far, although a tally of 12 goals and 15 assists in 52 games in all competitions has been misrepresented as a poor first season at the club.

One of his biggest issues has been him continually being caught offside, with a recent survey revealing he’s had a whopping 16 goals chalked off since arriving in London.

Even half of those being allowed would make his numbers for Chelsea so far look far more favourable, but Werner insists he’s not letting it get him down.

“It’s about how to behave in certain situations on the pitch, for example, when you get the ball open or with your back to goal,” he told Kicker.

“In the situation, I was in before the last international trip, in which, even if it got better recently, maybe I’m still in a bit.

“It’s immensely important when you come here and have a coach who shows you from the first minute: ‘I don’t think you’re bad, I don’t think you’re blind.’ If we work together, then it can be good.

“It’s about telling yourself that you scored your goal in every game, not that you missed a chance in that one game. But going crazy over it is the wrong approach.”
