Rafael Leao moved from Lille to AC Milan in August 2019, and since then there’s been repeat times when the Rossoneri have considered a sale.

That includes last summer, when there were claims of the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, being tasked with finding a new home for a good amount of money.

Last season he scored seven goals and added six assists across 40 appearances. This campaign he’s got 14 goals and nine assists in 41, so AC Milan will be thrilled that nobody offered enough to sign the 22-year-old.

Newcastle United have been linked at times, and Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport says the Magpies are one of the clubs in the picture for the youngster. PSG are also thought to be keen, along with other ‘big names’ in the Premier League, although Newcastle are the only side mentioned.

Leao has a contract at Milan which lasts until June 2024, and the club want to protect themselves against the likes of Newcastle, PSG and others.

The left-winger is described as ‘the driver’ of the club’s success this season, as they look to seal the Serie A title. Should they win the league, then Gazzetta say Leao will be worth €100m.

Renewal talks are on the way, so don’t be surprised to see Newcastle United linked more… if only to pressure AC Milan into offering a bumper contract.
