Ruben Selles has given his opinion on Reading youngster Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan as he gears up for a move to AC Horsens.
Tipsbladet have spoken to the former Reading manager today with the 23-year-old on the verge of a move to the Danish side.
Selles opinion
Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan is set to leave Reading for his move to the Danish club, bringing an end to a longstanding relationship with the League One club.
He is a product of their youth system, coming through the U18s and U23s, where he scored 20 goals in 38 games in total. He moved to the first team in 2023. He’s since gone on to make 139 appearances, scoring 27 goals for the club.
That saw him working under Ruben Selles while he was in charge of The Royals. In fact, Ehibhatiomhan made more appearances under him (61) and scored more goals (13) than under any other Reading manager to date.
That means Selles is well placed to provide an opinion on the youngster and what he will offer his new club.
“Yes, I trained Kelvin for a year and a half in Reading,” he said.
“He is a young, talented player who comes from a really good family. His brother (Princewill) is also a young footballer in Southampton. Kelvin has played several different positions, but his primary position is as a striker. For us, he also played really, really well as a left winger.”
Championship interest
Selles was then asked to details Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan’s best qualities, of which eh clearly thinks there is plenty.
“One of his greatest qualities is his ability with his feet. He is good at dribbling, passing and finishing,” he added.
“He is also always open to learning, works hard – also defensively. So, it is important for his prospects in Denmark that he is good at set pieces. And even though he is over 190 centimetres tall, he is dynamic and technically skilled.”
The former Reading boss is also not surprised that the youngster is heading to the Superliga, despite reported Championship interest.
“No, because to be honest, several other Superliga clubs have called me and asked about him over the past few years,” he concluded.
“So, if he finally goes to Denmark, it will not be a surprise. As I said, I also think that the Superliga is a good fit for him and his qualities.
“And even though AC Horsens is a promoted club, it is a club with a nice history. I remember the time when they had Bo (Henriksen, ed.) and were fighting in the top six. I think it will be good for him.”
