Pogoń Szczecin’s Fredrik Ulvestad says Burnley helped him fulfil his dream of playing in the top five leagues in Europe.

Monday’s edition of Przeglad Sportowy have published an interview with the 33-year-old, where he talks about his time at Burnley.

The Norwegian was at Aalesunds FK’s academy and promoted to the first team in 2010. He spent four years there and left his country for the first time to join Burnley in February 2015.

Burnley were then in the Premier League, so were a big attraction. The newspaper asked the 33-year-old how his move from Norway to Burnley took shape. When responding to that, he said the Clarets move saw him fulfil his dream.

“As a child, I rooted for Juventus and dreamed of playing in Serie A or another top five league. So, joining Burnley was a dream come true. But it took hard work,” he said.

The defensive midfielder was a regular during his time with the Norwegian club’s senior team. However, he failed to cement a place at Turf Moor.

Ulvestad was limited to 67 minutes from two Premier League appearances for Burnley, who were relegated from the top flight after the 2014/15 season. The Clarets sent him on loan to Charlton Athletic during the 2016/17 season.

The Norwegian made 10 appearances for the English club before they released him in February 2018.

Tourists impacted atmosphere for some big Burnley matches

During his time in England, Burnley faced Arsenal and Manchester City away in the FA Cup. Przeglad Sportowy were curious to know how the fans were compared to the Polish league.

“It’s quiet in England because there are so many tourists,” Ulvestad explained.

“The hottest weather was in Turkey when we played Galatasaray. In Sweden, it was also during the Stockholm derby. Poland, the atmosphere is always fantastic. In Szczecin, it’s because of the way the stadium is built and the passionate fans.”
