Brighton & Hove Albion’s Diego Gómez has told the media he’s been received well at his new club.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been speaking to journalist Christian Martin about his move to Brighton, and his comments are relayed by Versus.
Brighton were chasing the Paraguay international for most of this season and have been successful in agreeing a deal for him with Inter Miami.
The transfer was announced last week, and the Seagulls have confirmed the player will officially join the club next month. A move to The Amex has seen the midfielder reunite with his compatriot, Julio Enciso.
Gómez has thanked his countryman and his new Brighton teammates for making him feel comfortable at The Amex.
“I get along very well with Julio, he is a brother to me because I have had him as a teammate since I was 14,” Gómez explained.
“It was a pleasure to be able to be here with him, to fulfil a dream that belongs to every boy, which is to play here in such an important league. I’m very happy about that.
“He received me in the best way here at the club, like all his teammates also received me very well.”
On Sunday, Brighton presented their new signing to home fans prior to their 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace. The tie also saw Enciso make his first appearance since October.
Gómez has already played alongside Enciso for their country at various levels including the senior team. They can do that at Brighton if the 20-year-old were to not leave the club in the winter market.
“He’s an extraordinary boy, who plays very well in every way. For me it would be a pride to be able to share here with a fellow countryman,” Gómez explained.
“It’s a dream come true for both of us, hopefully we can play together, but if he leaves, I’ll always be there wishing him the best.”
