Despite having just arrived at Chelsea, Andrey Santos didn’t have a lot of time to get to know his new club.

That’s because Brazil are currently playing the U20 South American Championship, so once the midfielder’s move to the Blues was completed, he returned to feature in the tournament.

Andrey Santos is proving to be an important player for the U20 national team, as he’s captaining the side which, after only two games, already got the qualification for the next stage.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the youngster talked about this whole process he went through this month, claiming Chelsea had no problems in letting him play the tournament.

“Everyone knows that it has always been a dream to represent my country. I have to enjoy every moment, every participation, and it’s clear how happy I am to be here, to be at Granja to represent Brazilian football,” Andrey Santos told Globo Esporte.

“I got there, talked to them and they made me feel at ease, accepted and wished me good luck. I’m sure they’re rooting for me, they’ve already sent me a message to keep it up. And I hope to continue like this to continue bearing fruit and happiness for Brazil and for Chelsea.”

With Brazil no expecting to play the U20 World Cup this year, Santos expects Chelsea to let him take part in that as well.

“We haven’t had that kind of talk yet, but I believe everything will go well. God willing, we’ll get that spot for the Worlds and the title. And I hope it all goes well!”

Andrey Santos also talked a little about his arrival at Chelsea, claiming he’s fulfilling a dream, and thanking the help from other Brazilians in the squad.

“It was a very good start. It’s a dream come true to play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, a huge club like Chelsea. I am very happy. Everyone who is close to me knows that it was my goal when I was 18 to be in Europe, and, thank God, I was able to achieve it.

“Thiago and Jorginho are phenomenal guys, I always looked up to them, I always followed them, and I was very happy in the first contact for the way they treated me, for the simplicity, for the welcome. I hope to help them and the team a lot when I return.”

Chelsea spent €12.5m to sign the midfielder from Vasco da Gama, and should soon give him the chance of debuting in the Premier League.
