Last month, Nottingham Forest offered €6.5m including bonuses to sign Pablo Maffeo. Negotiations weren’t successful as the Premier League club refused to meet the €8m requested by RCD Mallorca.
Mallorca manager Jagoba Arrasate confirmed negotiations with the Reds broke down for the right-back’s sale. His contract expires in 2026 but he wants to change clubs this summer.
On Thursday, we covered claims from Spain which explained Maffeo is unhappy that he hasn’t found a new club. This has apparently been evident in training, and Arrasate asked him to leave the session early on Wednesday.
Cadena Ser echoes that and also report Nottingham Forest refused to meet the €8m price set by the La Liga club.
It’s claimed Atlético Mineiro have come forward to sign the 28-year-old with a €4m bid, much less than what Nottingham Forst offered earlier.
The Brazilian club are trying to tempt Maffeo, while the report says Nuno Espírito Santo’s side haven’t ‘closed the door permanently’ on him. There are other unnamed Premier League clubs in the mix.
It’s clear that the fullback is unhappy and it’s becoming challenging for Mallorca to handle his situation. This was seen during recent training sessions, with the player said to have had a disagreement with Arrasate.
Cadena Ser states: ‘The player and the club are doomed to reach an agreement on a deal that satisfies all parties.’
Nottingham Forest, who haven’t closed the door, can take advantage of Maffeo’s current situation and sign him for a reasonable price… perhaps even less than they originally offered.
