Kristoffer Ajer fractured his eye socket after colliding with Livingston’s Craig Halkett during Celtic’s last league tie, which will force him to miss the opportunity to represent Norway during November’s international break.

Former Norwegian footballer and the centre-back’s close friend Jesper Mathisen reveals he managed to talk to the Hoops player, but the latter expects the defender to spend another spell on the sidelines after picking up the injury.

“He was downhearted yesterday when I talked to him. It was a nasty blow. It may take some time before he’s back. I also believe Lagerback is a little frustrated with it,” Mathisen was quoted as saying by Norweigian newspaper Verdens Gang.

The 20-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in September and only returned to action at the end of last month.

This forced him to miss October’s international break with Norway, but the Celtic player was in contention to make it to the squad for his country’s two UEFA Nations League fixtures against Slovenia and Cyprus.

Luck is not in favour of the 20-year-old as this is the second time in two months the player has not made it to the national team due to injuries. Celtic, on the other hand, will be hoping that Ajer is not forced to spend a long spell on the sidelines.
