Feyenoord manager Arne Slot may not want to join Tottenham this summer, as he can stay where he is and get Champions League experience.
That’s according to Jan Boskamp, who has discussed the manager’s situation long several other pundits on Veronica Offside, relayed by Soccer News.
Slot has been linked with a move to Tottenham as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte following his departure last week.
The Dutch coach has been impressing with Feyenoord this season, leading them to the top of the Eredivisie and clear of the likes of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.
It’s seen him pick up admirers and after Leeds tried to hire him as their new manager earlier this year, Tottenham have now been brought into the picture as possible suitors.
That move would be a considerable step for Slot, who remains relatively inexperienced after just 58 games as manager at Alkmaar and 90 with Feyenoord.
That could play a part in his thinking, according to And van der Meyde, who believes he may want to develop further before moving.
“I assume Feyenoord will go into the Champions League and he wants to gain experience as a coach,” he said.
“Foreign clubs do look at what he does at the club: he made the Conference league final; he has a clear style of play and he is the Mark Rutte among Dutch football coaches. He is verbally very strong,” added Wim Kieft.
For fellow analyst Jan Boskamp, though, a move to Tottenham isn’t on the cards because there is another manager ahead of him, Vincent Kompany.
“Why?” he responded after fellow panellist Wilfred Genee suggested he would be leaving Feyenoord.
“I heard that Tottenham Hotspur wanted him, but the number one on the list is Vincent Kompany. He is 20 points off in the Championship.”
