On Monday, Bild stated Leeds United had tabled their first bid to sign Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Ao Tanaka.
A day later, the midfielder took a knock in training, leading to reports stating that his exit could be in danger. However, the German club later insisted he hadn’t picked up an injury and would be able to train on Wednesday.
This is relayed by today’s Rheinische Post, who then explain why Leeds’ could reconsider signing the 24-year-old.
Daniel Farke knows Tanaka well from his time in Germany, and appreciates his profile and style of play.
His sale is needed for Fortuna Düsseldorf to bring in further reinforcements before the window closes.
Tanaka was sidelined from April to June with a knee injury, and it was always likely a medical would focus on that, even before Tuesday’s events.
Rheinische Post insist the latest tests have shown the knock didn’t result in a serious issue, but they state – according to their own information – that there’s now doubts at Leeds over the signing.
That’s understandable, and if a fee is agreed then the medical will have to be thorough.
