On Tuesday afternoon, the Italian media were full of stories about Monchi’s possible move from Roma to Manchester United.

But the truth is that the original report actually came from Spain, where website El Gol Digital had an article about the situation.

According to the outlet, Monchi’s situation at Roma is going from bad to worse with the club’s recent form, especially for the poor start from the signings he’s made.

That could mean his departure from the club, and the obvious destination for the rumours would be Manchester United, who were linked to him some weeks ago.

The reason a Spanish outlet is reporting it is that Atletico Madrid would be pretty happy with this news. That’s because it means that Manchester United would leave their director Andrea Berta working at the Colchoneros.

We all know that El Gol Digital aren’t exactly the best source for rumours. They’re the kind of website who writes dozens of transfer stories about the same clubs everyday, which makes us question the veracity of all of them.

And although this Monchi article sounded pretty plausible at first, they finish the story with a typical El Gol Digital rumour.

They say that as Atletico Madrid could be soon losing Jan Oblak, they should go for a replacement. And since David De Gea has the Real Madrid door closed because of the transfer of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, then the Spaniard would consider returning to Atleti.

So we may see a couple of reasonable stories in the Italian papers tomorrow saying Monchi could head to Manchester United soon, but we better remember where the rumour is coming from.
