Manchester United may have been presented with their opportunity to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as the German club eye up Spanish youngster Ivan Fresneda.
That’s according to Kicker, who say Frimpong ‘could go as early as the summer’ to make room for the highly-rated Real Valladolid defender.
Manchester United are believed to be admirers of Frimpong, having been linked with a move for him for several months.
They’re likely to be on the hunt for a new right-back in the summer, with Erik ten Hag not settled on Aaron Wan Bissaka or Diogo Dalot as the long-term options in the position.
They’ve been linked with numerous potential options for months, including Frimpong, with Erik ten Hag a fan of his compatriot.
That was followed by Leverkusen chief Simon Rolfes admitting there would be exits from the club this summer and now it seems they are already eyeing up a replacement in the form of Fresneda.
Kicker explain that Leverkusen could afford his €15m asking price and brining him in would then allow them to sell Frimpong from a ‘position of strength’.
Whether Manchester United are one of those who make a bid remains to be seen, but the door certainly seems to be opening, particularly if Fresneda arrives in Germany.
