The future of Albanian goalkeeper Etrit Berisha at Atalanta hangs in the balance according to claims in the Italian media. The Serie A side consider the asking price from his parent club Lazio to be too high, and this could open the door for Aston Villa loanee Pierluigi Gollini
TMW have revealed Atalanta are having second thoughts about signing Berisha in the summer window because they are not prepared to pay Lazio the €6.5m asking price. Berisha has established himself as Atalanta’s first choice despite Gollini joining the club on loan from Aston Villa in the last window.
Talks are expected to continue with Lazio, but if the Roman side refuse to drop their price then Atalanta are likely to turn to Gollini for next season. The Aston Villa player is tied to the Italian club on an 18 month loan deal, and making the Italian first choice would mean they wouldn’t have to splash out on Berisha.
Gollini only signed for Aston Villa in the last summer window, and started the season as Roberto Di Matteo’s number one. However, after Steve Bruce replaced the Italian boss Gollini eventually lost his place in the Aston Villa starting eleven, and was then loaned to Atalanta in January.
The Aston Villa loan player is yet to play for his new club due to the form of Bershia, despite expectations Gollini would be first choice.
