Liverpool’s opportunity to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen may be about to show itself as his lack of appearances this season could lead to a transfer.
Fussball Transfers cover the player today and explain that Liverpool are still ‘closely following’ the 21-year-old centre-back after previously showing an interest in him.
They explain that reports elsewhere have indicated that AC Milan and AS Roma are putting out feelers for the defender, who is tied to Leverkusen until 2027 and has a release clause worth €70m in his contract.
They’re not the only sides keen, though, as according to FT’s information Liverpool are also ‘closely following’ the Ecuadorian’s development.
Their interest is a long-standing one and earlier this year the player’s agent, Manuel Sierra, confirmed that Liverpool had been in talks over a potential transfer before ending them to focus on rebuilding their midfield.
At that point, Leverkusen weren’t interested in a sale but the situation has changed, and Hincapie is no longer the key player he once was.
So far this season he’s only managed seven appearances in the Bundesliga and in 17% of the available minutes in the league to boot.
That could mean the door is opening for Liverpool to get a long-term target and it seems they’re keeping an eye on the situation in case the opportunity presents itself.
