Over the course of the summer, reports claimed West Ham United and Chelsea were after Rayan Cherki, currently at Lyon.

The young forward has long been seen as a great talent, and one many would want on their team, but always struggled to fully live up to the hype.

That changed under Laurent Blanc, who managed to get the 20-year-old to play at a better level, drawing in the likes of Chelsea and West Ham, but it’s all gone downhill since the arrival of Fabio Grosso, with Foot Mercato reporting now that Lyon could consider a sale.

Contracted with the Ligue 1 side until the end of the 2024-25 season, there is still room for them to negotiate a decent price for the player, but they can only go so high.

Knowing that he may not want to renew, especially since they are having a terrible season, sitting rock bottom of the table, they don’t want him to lose more value, which is why ‘the door is not closed’ on a transfer.

Foot Mercato report that a fee of €20m could be enough, although sources at Lyon have told them that the club ‘hope to get a bit more’ than that if a sale were to be acted, even if he has been borderline terrible this season.

It’s recalled that Chelsea and West Ham ‘were there’ in the summer, and while they have not come forward just yet, that could certainly change in the near future.

In short, Cherki is now reaching a ‘turning point’ in his Lyon adventure, and could certainly ‘think in case of an offer’.

The ball is now in the court of Chelsea and West Ham.
