It seems there’s not a consensus that Casemiro is having a poor season at Manchester United.
The midfielder was hammered by criticism following the match against Liverpool at the weekend, with compilations showing many he made with and without the ball.
It turns out that TNT Sports journalist Fred Caldeira has come out in Casemiro’s defence, claiming he’s not Manchester United’s defensive problem.
The journalist, who’s a Brazilian correspondent in England, claimed that Erik ten Hag’s defensive system has other problems, including their new star Kobbie Mainoo.
“I didn’t understand some of the heavy criticism of Casemiro yesterday. Manchester United’s defensive problem is structural. And as good and encouraging as Mainoo is, he still leaves a lot of space and has a natural reading of the game (18 years old).”
Following the performance against Liverpool, Casemiro admitted he’s not at his best and even said he struggles to sleep when thinking about his performances.
The midfielder’s press officer recently showed up in a podcast with Brazilian media saying good things about the player, probably trying to bring his morale up a little.
Now despite his poor performances, Casemiro still hasn’t lost his place at Manchester United, and his respectable career seems to hold him in Erik ten Hag’s starting line-up.
We’ll see how long that lasts.
