AC Milan may be regretting their efforts to beat Leeds United to Charles de Ketelaere last summer, with the player yet to prove worth the effort.
That’s according to former Milan journalist Giuseppe Sabadini, who has questioned if the player has had one positive match in his time in Milan so far.
The Belgian youngster joined Milan in a €32m deal from Club Brugge in the summer transfer window as the Italian side looked to build for the future and secure the signing of one of the hottest rated young players in Europe.
They battled hard for his signature too, with Leeds United among his suitors and fighting Milan throughout the summer to try and convince him to move to Elland Road.
That never happened and he went to Milan, where he’s endured a miserable campaign and managed just one assist in 38 games in all competitions.
Their decision to beat Leeds to him is one that has now been widely questioned, and Sabadini has added his opinion on the matter.
“In my opinion the squad was not built well. The players have no spare parts and are visibly tired,” he told Milan News.
“I didn’t understand the purchase of De Ketelaere. I don’t know if it’s an acclimatisation problem, but he hasn’t been able to prove anything. I don’t remember a positive performance from him.”
