Leeds United’s Diego Llorente has been on loan at AS Roma since January 2023.
Speaking to Spagnaculturaescienza.it, relayed by Il Romanista, the defender revealed he lacks clarity on where he will play next season.
Two days ago, Corriere dello Sport stated the Serie A side could consider extending the 30-year-old’s loan stay for one more season, after Leeds failed to be promoted back to the Premier League.
There’s been mixed claims in Italy over the deal agreed between the Whites and Roma for the centre-back last summer. A few claims have stated it was a dry loan deal, while some have insisted there’s a mandatory purchase option set at €5m.
Llorente’s contract at Elland Road lasts until 2026, and he talked to Spagnaculturaescienza.it about his career in Spain and his time with the Giallorossi.
Towards the end, the Leeds owned player was asked whether he had been to Rome, prior to his arrival at the Stadio Olimpico.
When responding to that, Llorente talked about his future, without giving an insight into the current agreement with the Italian club.
“Yes, in 2015 in the summer with my wife, but for three or four days. In a short time, you see little, you can’t visit many places, especially if it’s hot. But in the last year and a half I have discovered this city and it is beautiful. It has everything, even the sea,” he said.
“I have also been to Milan and Venice, but without a doubt Rome is the most beautiful city in Italy.
“And this team seems like a big family: the atmosphere in the club is always positive. I feel the closeness of the owners, of the managers. I am very happy here, my wife and children too. I don’t know what the future holds, but as a club I will always have fantastic memories of Roma.”
Llorente’s comments hint that he would favour extending his stay at Roma into next season.
