Girona’s Jhon Solís is on the verge of completing a move to Birmingham City in the winter market.

Three days ago, we covered claims from Spain and Argentina that Chris Davies’ side had overtaken Mexico’s Tigres UANL. The Blues managed that by offering better terms to sign the 21-year-old.

César Luis Merlo, a respect journalist in South America, reported Birmingham City’s agreement to sign the player permanently.  The Championship side showed willingness to offer between €4m and €5m.

Journalists Nil Solà and Pipe Sierra explained Birmingham City will sign him on a loan costing €500k. There’s a conditional purchase obligation set at €8m. That becomes mandatory when he makes 11 league appearances in the second half of this season.

Girona manager Míchel has now confirmed Solís’ impending exit, and Jorna Da Perfecta have relayed his comments.

The La Liga side face Espanyol in the league on Friday and Míchel was speaking at a pre-match press conference. Girona are keen on signing Manchester City’s Argentine attacking midfielder, Claudio Echeverri, in this window. Indeed, they were keen on him in the summer but he ended up at Bayer Leverkusen instead, where things did not go to plan.

Transfer to Birmingham City is “done deal”

Girona have to release one of their current non-EU players to make room for Echeverri, which will be done through Solís’ departure to Birmingham City.

“I don’t know if the paperwork will arrive in time for Echeverri to play tomorrow, but Solís’ departure is a done deal,” he said.

“We need players in midfield, and the sporting director is working on this. I’m optimistic that we can count on Claudio for tomorrow’s match.”

Birmingham City should now announce Jhon Solís’ arrival, perhaps even today if they can go through the medical tests quick enough. For Girona to confirm Echeverri, they need the Championship transfer to be finalised rapidly.
