Earlier on Thursday, we covered news in the Italian media that Manchester United would like to trigger the release clause in Kim Min-jae’s contract.
The clause, said to be of around €50m (Corriere dello Sport had it at €48m), is reportedly only valid for 15 days in the summer, but that would give the Red Devils the opportunity to swoop in and steal him from Naples.
That’s something the Serie A side want to avoid, and is why they are currently working on trying to either increase or get rid of the clause altogether with a new contract, in hope of warding off Manchester United.
Calciomercato.it bring their own information on the matter, and explain that the club’s director of football is ‘repeatedly arguing’ with the South Korea international’s agent.
That’s because they want to see his €2.6m/year salary doubled, which Napoli are reluctant to do, especially with the self-imposed wage cap put in place by Aurelio De Laurentiis of €3.5m.
This is when Manchester United are brought into the mix, as they are ‘above all’ the most interested in the defender, and it’s explained that as soon as the new owners come in, they could ‘immediately pay’ the amount of the clause and bring Kim Min-jae to the Premier League.
