Even if reports in England seem fairly adamant Manchester United aren’t interested in hiring a director of football, the European press believe someone could still be appointed, and that man is Antero Henrique, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Portuguese transfer guru has been without a club since he was replaced by Leonardo in the French capital, and there were a number of rumours around the end of the January transfer window claiming he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

Nothing has come of it so far, but that doesn’t mean he won’t move to Manchester United in the near future.

Following the mutual termination of Andoni Zubizarreta’s contract at Marseille, a few articles popped up over the past 24 hours suggesting Henrique could replace him in the south of France, but those are reportedly wide of the mark.

Europe 1 journalist Julien Froment took to social media on Friday afternoon to explain that ‘after a few phone calls’, he was told the rumour sending the Portuguese director of football to the Ligue 1 club was ‘far-fetched’.

Not only that, but Henrique is ‘more expected over at… Manchester United’.

In what capacity isn’t said, but considering the adamancy of the English media, it surely won’t be as a director of football?

Unless they’re wrong, of course, and Manchester United are just feeding false information to hide their work behind the scenes.
