Despite strong claims from the Italian media claiming Napoli defender Kim Min-jae could be about to join Manchester United, reports from South Korea insist that this transfer isn’t that close.
As local outlet Star News today writes about the 27-year-old’s future, they managed to speak to his entourage, who are quoted dismissing the recent stories.
“The transfer to Manchester United is not true,” Kim’s staff told Star News.
“Currently, Kim Min-jae is focusing on finishing the season. In the case of the English Premier League, the qualification to the Champions League or the final standings have not been decided. There is no need to move.”
Star News highlights that there’s ‘nothing urgent’ for Kim, especially because Manchester United are not the only side willing to sign him.
It’s claimed that since his release clause does not have an exact amount and depends on the club that buys him, that makes it an ‘advantageous’ situation for the defender, who can watch clubs come for him and ‘choose a destination’ he wants.
As for Premier League clubs who want the centre-back, the story points out that Manchester United remain being pursued by Liverpool for a place in the Champions League, and that may also impact on the defender’s choice.
And there’s also a special reason why Kim is not in a hurry to pick his next club. He’s actually set to undergo military training in June, with his entourage confirming it, so a decision should only be made in July.
“He has to be enlisted in June, so he doesn’t have to rush,” they say.
