Standard Liège have held talks with Everton over a loan deal for Everton full-back Niels Nkounkou.
That’s according to DH Net, who say the move could include an option to turn it into a permanent transfer.
Reports over the weekend stated that Liège were looking for a left-back to provide competition for Nicolas Gavory.
They were apparently keen on a loan deal and DH back that up, saying that Liège are still looking for a left-back after watching Gavory and Hugo Siquet struggle over the weekend.
They want someone specifically to compete with the former, and ‘discussions have been held’ with Everton over Nkounkou to consider a deal with an option to buy.
That is all they are willing to share on the matter at the moment, but the fact there could be a permanent deal involved is new.
There’s no mention of what Everton think about the deal, although it is hard to imagine them being keen given the Frenchman is the back-up for Lucas Digne.
That would suggest they would not be keen on letting him go, not unless there is a replacement lined up over the next day.
